[06:38] [grey-monkey] I'm having troubles with my network printers not being available in all local applications on my thin clients. Is there a way to make a printer globally available to local applications?
[06:48] rjune (~rjune@oh-67-76-200-198.sta.embarqhsd.net) left irc: Remote host closed the connection
[06:48] [alkisg] The only relevant thing I know is that when I have a printer connected to my server, to make that printer available to my ltsp-based fat clients (==localapps), I need to go to the printer's configuration dialog on the serer, then on the menu server > settings, and check "Publish shared printers connected to this system".
[06:48] [alkisg] This way the clients auto-detect the printer, I don't need to do something on them.
[06:49] [grey-monkey] I'll try that. Thanks

[10:12] [anivair] )
[10:17] [abeehc] ethtool?
[10:19] [anivair] that won't work because I need root permissions to use it. I don't have admin rights on a local terminal
[10:20] [anivair] (ie: if I run it on a localapps xterm window, I can't run ethtool because I can't run it as root (no display) and I can't sudo (no sudo)

[10:23] [laron] is there a good ltsp client graphicall manager?

[10:24] [anivair] what it seems like I really need is a way to check to see if a given thin client is using full duplex. right now I've got nothing
[10:25] [anivair] all I know is that the server is
[10:25] [anivair] which doesn't help when running things on the thin client
[10:28] [anivair] really, it's a permissions issue. I don't have admin privelidges on hte localapps
[10:28] [anivair] so there's not much i can do that touches the nic
[10:30] [Lns] anivair: why not create a script during bootup to tell the server somehow (append to text file?) ?
[10:30] [Lns] or simply log into tc chroot
[10:31] [anivair] you lost me
[10:31] [anivair] you mean create a script to tell me at bootup whether or not they're using full duplex?
[10:31] [alkisg] anivair: put SCREEN_02=shell in lts.conf
[10:31] [alkisg] This way you'll get a root shell in the client
[10:31] [anivair] good call
[10:32] [alkisg] Then you can run mii-tool or ethtool etc..
[10:32] [alkisg] [Default]
[10:32] [alkisg] SCREEN_02=shell
[10:32] [alkisg] SCREEN_07=ldm
[10:33] [Lns] alkisg: why not just ctrl+alt+f1? Isn't there always a client shell there?
[10:33] [anivair] there is, but no login
[10:33] [alkisg] Lns, he'd need to unlock the root account to login there
[10:33] [alkisg] set a password, update the image etc... more difficult
[10:33] [anivair] will i need to reload the kernel after editing lts.conf? or just reboot?
[10:33] [alkisg] Just reboot
[10:34] [Lns] alkisg: this just dumps you into a shell itself?
[10:34] [alkisg] (the client)
[10:34] [alkisg] Lns, yup

[10:34] [Lns] I never really had many on the clients.. =)

[10:34] [Lns] and I always set root pw anyway
[10:35] [Lns] alkisg: hahaha
[10:35] [Lns] surely you mean LTSP_10X = True

[11:42] [laron] how can i view the individual client's ip address? from the server and locally on a client?
[11:44] [Lns] laron: from the client you can log into the chroot (by lts.conf having a "SCREEN_02 = Shell")
[11:45] [laron] ok
[11:46] [alkisg] Here's a script which outputs the clients mac address and ip address (assumes ubuntu/nbd): http://paste.ubuntu.com/396863/
[11:47] [Lns] alkisg: do you run multiple arch chroots?
[11:47] [alkisg] Lns, nope
[11:47] [Lns] darn
[11:47] [alkisg] I don't even use dhcpd :)
[11:48] [Lns] seems nobody does..i want to get ahead in the 64-bit client game and figure out how to run multiple chroots side by side
[11:48] [alkisg] Lns, I don't think dhcpd can detect i386 vs amd64
[11:48] [Lns] specially since localapps/fatclients could benefit from it
[11:48] [alkisg] There's a new pxelinux.0 that can do that, though
[11:48] [Lns] alkisg: i've been looking into vendor-class-options and friends for dhcpd..haven't found much
[11:48] [alkisg] It's still alpha/beta something, but if you want to be ahead of the game, you might give it a try...
[11:48] [Lns] oh really
[11:48] [alkisg] Lns, an i386 will have the same nic as an amd64, afaik
[11:49] [Lns] alkisg: oh that's just for the nic?
