[05:33] [_UsUrPeR_] morning all
[05:36] [wim_] Hi, I have 2 chroot environments (lenny and squeeze). Some Thin Clients are booting lenny other are booting squeeze. All lenny TC are booting fine. The problem is with the squeeze TC. The client booted and at the end an error shows up shortly "hostname: forward host lookup failed, resource temporary unavailable". The client boots further and the LDM login screen comes. After login a popup appears with "Enter the name of the host you want to login to".
[05:36] [wim_] After entering the hostname the first error appears again and I get the ldm screen again. Why is chroot lenny working fine and squeeze not (in the same server)? Any ideas, many thanks

[07:10] [Gadi] alkisg: ping
[07:10] [alkisg] pong
[07:10] [Gadi] did you see my commit over the weekend?
[07:10] [alkisg] Yup, but I didn't yet test it
[07:11] [Gadi] ah ok, let me know if that works for you
[07:11] *** Gadi is going to be traveling for the next 2 weeks, so I will have intermittent access
[07:11] [alkisg] Hmmm I could tell you in a minute, I just updated with stgraber's ppa, hold on...
[07:12] [Gadi] did stgraber update that?
[07:12] [alkisg] I think so
[07:14] [Gadi] cool. I didn't test for "flickerfree-ness" bec I am not 100% sure I know what that looks like (and also, I prefer stability first and flickerfree-ness second)
[07:15] [Gadi] ;)
[07:19] [alkisg] test #1, OK: SCREEN_02=shell SCREEN_10=shell SCREEN_11=ldm
[07:19] [alkisg] btw, I wonder, does that new way also save memory?
[07:20] [alkisg] I.e. if I never switch to SCREEN_02, do I save the bash memory?
[07:22] [alkisg] test #2, FAILED on vbox: SCREEN_02=shell SCREEN_10=ldm SCREEN_11=shell
[07:22] [alkisg] Gadi, I can't switch to vt10 in this case
[07:23] [alkisg] It also failed on real hardware, i.e. I could not switch to vt10, but it also booted and left me on vt1 instead of vt11.
[07:24] [Gadi] alkisg: when you switch, it may take 2 secs before the screen comes up
[07:24] [alkisg] Yup, but that's not it
[07:24] [alkisg] I can't switch at all
[07:24] [alkisg] I'm left on the same vt...
[07:25] [Gadi] boy, that's weird
[07:25] [alkisg] test #3: half failure
[07:25] [Gadi] in other words, it never inits the other vts?
[07:25] [alkisg] SCREEN_02=shell SCREEN_05=ldm SCREEN_09=shell
[07:26] [alkisg] In this case, it started on vt5
[07:26] [alkisg] (I'd expect it to start to vt9)
[07:26] [alkisg] Otherwise it worked
[07:26] [Gadi] are you sure my code is in there?
[07:26] [alkisg] Gadi: it does init the command-line vts, but not ldm
[07:26] [alkisg] bzr1711

[07:28] [alkisg] I do have SCREEN_DEFAULT in /etc/init.d/ltsp-client-core
[07:28] [alkisg] Gadi, keep in mind that something in lucid may be switching the active vt after our code is ran...
[07:28] [Gadi] can you try removing the "-s" from the openvt line in screen_session?
[07:29] [alkisg] Gadi: I tried to manually run openvt -c 10 /bin/bash
[07:29] [alkisg] Then, I was able to switch to it
[07:30] [alkisg] Then, ldm was started normally :)
[07:30] [alkisg] (that's in test#2)
[07:31] [Gadi] alternatively, it may be all that backgrounding of openvt stuff in screen_session which is unnecessary now

[07:34] [alkisg] without the -s, I was left in vt1
[07:34] [methril_work_] a nfs simple question. If my system mounts the system as rw and i´m exporting as ro could i have problems with some operations?
[07:35] [methril_work_] i´m trying to take some shots from a webcam. and i think that my problems is related to mount permissions
[07:36] ball (~ball@client-216-176-80-183.consolidated.net) left irc: Client Quit
[07:38] [alkisg] Gadi, I wonder if we could move your waiting code to a wrapper,
[07:38] [alkisg] i.e. `openvt -c tty wrapper_script screen_script`
[07:39] [alkisg] That wrapper script would wait until the console is active, and _then_ it would call the screen_script (ldm or...)
[07:39] [Gadi] alkisg: well, I suppose it could be a screen-session.d/ script
[07:39] [alkisg] The difference in this case is that openvt happens before we switch to that vt
[07:40] [alkisg] So I imagine that would solve my problem where I can't switch to the vt with ldm...
[07:42] [Gadi] alkisg: alternatively, maybe screen_session should be called with openvt
[07:42] [Gadi] I dunno
[07:42] [alkisg] But which vt? we should move some code then
[07:42] gentgeen__ (~kevin@65.105.38.211.ptr.us.xo.net) left irc: Remote host closed the connection
[07:43] *** alkisg wonders how does upstart fit in all of this...
[07:43] [Gadi] your tests definitely seem to suggest that before openvt is called, none of the other vt's are active
[07:43] [Gadi] which is weird
[07:43] [alkisg] The first 6 ones are
[07:43] [alkisg] console-setup has a configuration file in which the default is tty[1-6]

[07:44] *** Gadi votes we revert back to LTSP4's logical use of vt1 ;)
[07:46] [Gadi] methril_work_: are you talking about the rootfs or some other mount?
[07:46] [methril_work_] rootfs
[07:46] [methril_work_] it´s a ltsp system
[07:46] [Gadi] rootfs is shared, so it should always be read-only on the client
[07:47] [Gadi] anything you write to should be in a tmpfs
[07:47] [Gadi] or other writable mount
[07:47] [methril_work_] but the mount at client show every mount as rw
[07:47] [Gadi] that you mount later
[07:47] [Gadi] methril_work_: what distro?
