[01:47] [bassie] hi all, i got a hardware/kernel problem running ltsp on ubuntu 9.04. I would like to replace the kernel and have upgraded/downgraded it but the client keeps having troubles
[01:47] [bassie] i followed a couple of how to's including https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UbuntuLTSP/UpdatingChroot to no luck
[01:49] [bassie] when the client boots i get thrown into initram fs. The first error i see is: mounting /dev/nbd0 on rofs failed. no such device
[01:50] [bassie] and then some more mounting errors
[02:14] [alkisg] bassie: put a break=mount in /var/lib/tftpboot/ltsp/i386/pxelinux.cfg/default
[02:14] [alkisg] Or just try running manually nbd-client from the initramfs prompt

[02:41] [alkisg] Is that vbox? Weird...
[02:42] [bassie] i'll swap it for another
[02:42] [alkisg] The module should be there, I was using vbox while I had jaunty with no problems
[02:42] [bassie] well it works, until i change the kernel
[02:43] [alkisg] So if you put the old kernel back, it works?

[02:52] [alkisg] OK, then it is a kernel problem with the pcnet32 module?
[02:52] [bassie] well it loads without a problem
[02:52] [bassie] i tried it with kernel 2.6.17 and kernel 2.6.19
[02:53] [bassie] 2.6.18 works fine
[02:53] [bassie] but then my sound has hickups
[02:57] [bassie] does ltsp use a default kernel, or a special kernel?
[02:57] [bassie] i took a deb package as kernel, never compiled it by hand
[02:59] [alkisg] A special kernel
[02:59] [bassie] so i have to compile it by hand?
[02:59] [alkisg] No
[02:59] [alkisg] You can install the .deb package in the chroot
[02:59] [bassie] so i chroot, mount /proc
[02:59] [alkisg] The hooks in /usr/share/initramfs-tools/hooks (and scripts) will put the ltsp magic in the initramfs image
[03:00] [bassie] dpkg -i kernel package
[03:00] [bassie] exit chroot and umount /proc
[03:00] [bassie] and ltsp-build-kernel and update image
[03:00] [alkisg] Yup
[03:01] [bassie] ok hold on, my server is also using a pcnet adapter, gonna switch kernel there
[03:16] [bassie] installed the same kernel on my vbox server with the same adapter and that works fine
