[02:47] [frederickjh] What I do is log out and back in on the server and normally this drops the CPU activity.
[02:50] [frederickjh] vino is the remote desktop server. If you do not access your machine this way (VNC) then you might want to uninstall it. I have heard for some this stops the CPU hogging.

[02:56] [puckettc] I do have x running. I sort of cheated as the desktop install was the easiest.
[02:56] [frederickjh] Try logging out and back in to see if that lowers your CPU usage.
[02:57] [frederickjh] Normally it works the first time for me.
[02:57] [puckettc] Also I suppose I should be running the server package but I jumped the gun a little with the project. This only occurs on one of the servers so I thought I would ask here.
[02:58] [frederickjh] I have X running on my server but I am not serving as many clients as you.
[02:58] [puckettc] I can ssh into the machine with no one logged on at the terminal and it still is 90 or so percent
[02:58] [frederickjh] So X is not running?
[02:58] [frederickjh] What does top report when you run it in a terminal?
[02:59] [puckettc] each of my servers handles about 25 clients. I have ssh tunnel disabled in the lts conf
[02:59] [frederickjh] top will tell you you biggest CPU users.
[02:59] [frederickjh] Are you using encrypted traffic to the clients? (This is the default.)
[03:00] [puckettc] no I have turned that off
[03:00] [frederickjh] You can turn it off in the lts.conf.
[03:00] [frederickjh] I would first check what top says in a terminal and see what is using the cpu.
[03:01] [puckettc] top has xorg between 50 and 90%
[03:02] [frederickjh] Did you try login out and back in?

[07:17] [Briareos1] alkisg i am talking about VNC - i guessed iTALC uses vnc connections ....
[07:17] [alkisg] *how
[07:17] [alkisg] Yes, iTalc uses encrypted vnc connections
[07:17] [frederickjh] I we use Opera and the problem seems to be more related to java apps in the browser.
[07:18] [alkisg] Briareos1: but that's for monitoring the users. It isn't to be used by the users themselves.
[07:18] [Briareos1] users boot via bootp/tftp (?) and for remote administration i log on the the user's session via "krdc 192.168.1.11:59XX"
[07:19] [Briareos1] alkisg yes, i am not talking about the users themselves - just for the admins to mirror their desktops for support
[07:19] [alkisg] Briareos1: italc has client autodetection
[07:19] [alkisg] You don't need to discover the client addresses manually
[07:19] [Briareos1] can i achieve that autodetection without iTALC?
[07:20] [alkisg] Yes, but that's totally unrelated to vnc
[07:20] [Briareos1] sometimes, when i started krdc directly from a user on the server i could see a list of sessions incl. usernames within krdc
[07:20] [Briareos1] but since some days that stopped working ....
[07:21] [alkisg] You can't have both italc and vnc installed, they collide with each other (if you don't change the ports manually)
[07:21] [Briareos1] so i guessed there must be some way to do a "discovery" just like krdc sometimes could ...
