[08:38] [Gadi] yeah, goto is not a great name for a custom function
[08:38] [alkisg] (still, it should be case sensitive, I wonder why it parses it as a T_GOTO...)
[08:40] [Gadi] yeah, relying on case sensitivity aint the safest course of action ;)

[11:06] [ftherese_] I am trying to create a launcher for a wine program
[11:07] [ftherese_] and I need to know how to pass it the right xhost param
[11:07] [ftherese_] I am using the same user's installation for multiple users
[11:08] [ftherese_] with a command like this: env WINEPREFIX="/home/salledelectures/.wine" sudo -u salledelectures wine /home/salledelectures/.wine/drive_c/Program\ Files/Ictus3/ICTUS3.EXE
[11:09] [ftherese_] With that command in a launcher... and having typed xhost +
[11:09] [ftherese_] it runs just fine on the server
[11:10] [ftherese_] but of course on the thin client, I don't know how to do the xhost + thing
[11:11] [ftherese_] because it reports that xhost + must be set from the local computer

[11:16] [alkisg] ftherese_: just a quick hint, I don't think you need that, you can just ***mark*** wine to always run as the user salledelectures. Google for "setuid".

[12:16] [ftherese] Ok... I managed to get the program to launch... But the command doesn't work in the launcher:

[12:16] [ftherese] is there a way to simplify this command?
[12:16] [ftherese] I tried the setuid thing too... in a script
[12:17] [ftherese] but I had problems
[12:18] [ftherese] plus... I don't know if all I would have to do is change the /uar/bin/wine file to u+s and salledelectures:salledelectures
[12:18] [ftherese] to get it to run correctly the first time
[12:18] [ftherese] /usr/bin/wine i mean
[12:18] [ftherese] Plus, it would be nice to run these wine apps as localapps... which has worked in the past
[12:19] [ftherese] but my big problem is that I don't know how the xsecurity is set up
[12:19] sene (n=sene@unaffiliated/sene) joined #ltsp.
[12:19] [ftherese] and so I don't know any other way to define the display than "xhost +" which seems to me a bit of a hack
[12:20] [ftherese] plus, running it as a "localapp"
[12:20] cg_uira (n=cg_uira@190.72.155.169) left irc: Read error: 54 (Connection reset by peer)
[12:21] [Gadi] ftherese: so, you are running this as a localapp or just on the server?
[12:21] cg_uira (n=cg_uira@190.72.155.169) joined #ltsp.
[12:21] [ftherese] well right now... I think it is running on the server... because I don't get the on ltspxxx thingy in the title bar
[12:22] [ftherese] it is set up to where it could conceivable run as a local app
[12:22] [Gadi] right - thats on the server
[12:22] [ftherese] and it has in the past
[12:22] [Gadi] hehe
[12:22] [Gadi] ok - one step at a time
[12:22] [ftherese] ok
[12:23] [Gadi] so, xsecurity is net-transparent
[12:23] [Gadi] meaning, you can xhost + on server or client
[12:23] [Gadi] doesn't matter
[12:23] [Gadi] it acts on the current X display
[12:23] [Gadi] in terms of the launcher, you may need to double-up your forward slashes
[12:24] [Gadi] for it to be interpreted correctly
[12:24] [Gadi] I have had that issue with launchers sometimes
[12:24] [Gadi] are you editing the launcher in vi?
[12:24] [ftherese] ok... if I "xhost +" on the localhost
[12:25] [Gadi] you want to xhost + from within the display to which you want to grant access
[12:25] [ftherese] i get xhost: must be on local machine to enable or disable access control.
[12:25] [ftherese] so I do xhost + from the localapps xterm
[12:25] [ftherese] and that works
[12:25] [Gadi] weird
[12:25] [Gadi] I don't have to do that
[12:26] [ftherese] that must be nice ;)
[12:26] [Gadi] if you simply open up a terminal window new
[12:26] [Gadi] and type xhost +
[12:26] [ftherese] yup
[12:26] [Gadi] that doesn't work?
[12:26] [ftherese] nope
[12:26] [Gadi] huh
[12:26] [ftherese] I have to open up an xterm on the thin client
[12:26] [ftherese] meaning a localapps xterm
[12:27] [ftherese] I could just write a script
[12:27] [Gadi] must be some extra acl rule
[12:27] [ftherese] and create a launcher for that
[12:27] [ftherese] but then I could probably kiss goodbye the prospect of running wine as a localapp
[12:28] [Gadi] why?
[12:28] [ftherese] I don't know
[12:28] [ftherese] I haven't been able to keep up with how localapps are parsed and enabled in gnome
[12:28] [Gadi] just have your script launch: ltsp-localapps "..."
[12:28] [ftherese] the problem (if it is one) is it would look like this
[12:29] [Gadi] you mean in the menus?
[12:29] [ftherese] ltsp-localapps sudo -u salledelectures env WINEPREFIX="/home/salledelectures/.wine" wine /home/salledelectures...
[12:30] [ftherese] I think that is too many arguments to send to ltsp-localapps
[12:30] [ftherese] or at least it is not expecting that
[12:30] [Gadi] nah - its the quoting
[12:30] [ftherese] how should it be quoted?
[12:30] [Gadi] the default ltsp-localapps script was originally just an example
[12:30] [Gadi] :)
[12:30] [Gadi] its a shell script
[12:30] [Gadi] have a look at it
[12:30] cliebow (n=cliebow@WatchGuard.ellsworth-hs.ellsworth.k12.me.us) left irc: "Leaving"
[12:30] [Gadi] you'll see what I mean
[12:31] [Gadi] you might try:
[12:31] [Gadi] ltsp-localapps "sudo -u salledelectures env WINEPREFIX=/home/salledelectures/.wine wine /home/salledelectures..."
[12:33] [ftherese] ok... the whole thing
[12:33] [ftherese] Ill give it a try
[12:33] [ftherese] but the problem there is that the sudo -u part can't be executed in the localapps
[12:33] [ftherese] there are no users there
[12:33] [ftherese] except for root
[12:34] [ftherese] so maybe sudo -u salledelectures ltsp-localapps "env WINEPREFIX=..."
[12:35] [ftherese] uh oh
[12:36] [ftherese] no nevermind
[12:36] [ftherese] that's fine
