installing proprietary radeon drivers (or fixing a broken xorg.conf)
I recently messed up my graphics card settings on my ubuntu box and WS LG flatscreen and ended up having to guess how to get it back up again, since I had forgotten to write it down some place. I am wiser now :-) So here is my quick entry on how to fix (doesn't work for Jaunty, in fact there is no way to get fglrx to work on Jaunty because of incompatabilities with xorg. sudo mkdir /home/replace-with-username/drivers
cd /home/replace-with-username/drivers
sudo wget http://www2.ati.com/drivers/linux/ati-driver-installer-9-1-x86.x86_64.run
sudo sh ati-driver-installer-9-1-x86.x86_64.run
sudo apt-get install fglrx-amdcccle
sudo apt-get install fglrx-modaliases
sudo aticonfig --initial
sudo aticonfig --overlay-type=Xv
And make sure your xorg.conf contains:
